Club Match, Popes Gully - 20th March 2022
An additional match was held at Popes Gully with fine weather. However the lake was highly coloured with a lot of debris that had an effect on the fishing. Dave Rugman won the match with 17lb 0oz, he caught better sized fish that the others on the day. Rob Gabb was second with 8lb 9oz and Dick Vizard was third with 5lb 8oz.
Club Match, Top Lake, Harescombe - 6th March 2022
12 members fished the last match on the 2021/22 year at Harescombe Top Lake on Sunday 6th March. There was a keen cold breeze most of the day and thankfully no rain.
Winner on the day was Dave Rugman with 41lb 8oz on the dam wall. Andy Gabb was second with 22lb 10oz and Tony Cook third with 16lb 3oz that included a carp of 9lb 2oz.
Club Match, Popes Gully - 6th February 2022
The weather forecast for Sundays match was fairly grim, high winds and rain. On the day the wind was variable and even almost calm at times and the rain was showery. The fishing was a bit patchy with bites hard to come by at times, but there were some good weights.
Winner on the day was Russ Baker with an excellent 36lb 2oz. It was close between second and third, Rod Gabb just edged out Martin Pearce with 18lb 6oz compared to Martin’s 18lb 0oz.
Club Match, Popes Gully - 23rd January 2022
The club match at Popes Gully on Sunday was held om a cold still overcast day. Fishing was hard and you had to be patient for bites. Winner on the day was Russ Baker with an excellent weight 31lb, Martin Pearce and Rod Gabb were joint second with 15lb 8oz each.
Club Match, Top Lake, Harescombe - 9th January 2022
The club match was held at Harescombe on Sunday 9th January in good weather conditions. Winner on the day was Dave Starkey with an excellent catch of 72lb of carp on the feeder. Tony Cook was second with 30lb 8oz of carp, Roger Stokes was third with two carp and a few silvers.
Club Match, Top Lake, Harescombe - 5th December 2021
Nine anglers fished the Sunday Match at Harsecombe Top Lake, a new venue for us. The weather was reasonable and some excellent weights were recorded with quality roach and carp making an appearance.
Winner on the day was Russ Baker with 42lb 11oz, Steve Pearce was second with 29lb 14oz and Tony Skal third with 22lb 12oz.
The weights were excellent when many venues fishing very hard at the moment.
Christmas Match, Field Lake, Harescombe - 28th November 2021
The 2021 Christmas match was fished on a cold day, -3 when arriving at the fishery, all anglers were pegged on Field lake as the small lake was frozen. Fishing was slow at the start but there was more activity as the day progressed.
The Pearce family won the day with Martin in first place with 11lb 12oz including a carp of 8lb 4oz, Steve was second with 10lb 10oz of carp and silvers. Russ Baker was third with 9lb 4oz.
Next weeks match scheduled for Tortworth has been moved to Harescombe, we will use the Top Lake if the weather is suitable or Field Lake if it is cold or windy. Please let Peter Turner or Tony Cook know if you want to fish.
Club Match, Tortworth - 21st November 2021
Nine anglers fished on Sunday 21 November. The weather had just taken a cold turn with a chilling northerly breeze. The breeze caused plenty of leaf fall that created problems for some.
The fishing was hard, but all anglers caught something, but only the top three managed a pound or more. First on the day was Dave Rugmen with 3lb 3oz of roach from peg 16. Russ Baker was second with 1lb 2oz, Rus did not have a bite until 10 minute to two, so well done. Roger Stokes was third with 1lb.
The Christmas Match is at Harescombe next Sunday 28th November, there are still a few places left if you want to fish, just let Peter Turner or Tony Cook know.
Away Match v Alcove, Whitehouse Farm - 3rd October 2021
The match vs Alcove was well attended with 15 from Silver Bream and 17 from Alcove. The weather forecast was changeable, but the rain and wind made for a challenging day for many. With the heavy rain yesterday a hard day was expected, however some decent weights were recorded.
The team match was won by alcove with a final score of 111lb 6oz for Alcove and 85lb 12 oz for Silver Bream. Silver Bream recorded the 3rd, 4th and 6th places, but sold weights in the middle order secured the win for Alcove.
Nigel Hopkins was second with a carp of 18lb 1oz, Any Gab had an excellent weight of 15lb 2oz of quality chub and Pete Barnet was 4th and won Section C with 14lb 13oz.

Club Match, Gloucester Canal, Hardwicke - 26th September 2021
We fished the annual canal match at a new venue on the Stroud AA stretch that is on the opposite side to the towpath, with the advantage that you can drive to each peg. The canal was coloured due to water coming onto the canal from the Severn, we were advised that it would fish hard, and so it did!
Winner on the day was Dave Rugman on peg 31 with 5lb 8oz which was mainly roach. Steve Pearce was second with 3lb 14oz of perch and on good eel. Russ Baker was third with a roach catch of 3lb 2oz.
The pairs was won by Dave Rugman and Pete Barnett with a combined weight of 6lb 12oz.
Club Match, Tortworth - 5th September 2021
The latest club match was fished at Tortworth on Sunday 5th September in good weather conditions. Winner on the day was Dave Rugman on peg 25 with an all roach catch of 6lb 8oz, all on hemp. Roger Stokes was second with 5lb 2 oz and Tony Cook third with 2lb 0oz.
Club Match, Popes Gully - 15th August 2021
Popes Gully fished well again on Sunday with all 12 participants catching well. The weights at the top were close and winner on the day was Tony Cook with 41lb 6 oz form peg 1. Rod Gabb was second with 37lb 2oz and Roger Stokes was a close third with 37lb 1oz.
Club Match, Popes Gully - 1st August 2021
The match was fished in good weather conditions and all anglers caught well. Winner on the day was Roger Stokes with a weight of 61lb 14oz, we believe this is a five hour club match record, well done Roger. Steve Pearce was second with 35lb 11oz and Tony Cook a close third with 35lb 2oz.
The next match is on Sunday 15th August at Popes Gully and this requires registration to fish, all of the nine participants have signed up leaving three spare spaces, let me know if you want to fish.
Evening Series Aggregate Result
The evening series is fished over the 10 evening matches held in May, June and July each year. Points are awarded for results in each match, 10 for a win 9 for second etc., the lowest two scores are disregarded. The overall winner is the angler with the highest score.
The overall winner for the year is Peter Turner with a score of 67, Dave Rugman was a close second with 63 and Andy Gabb was third with 58.
Evening Match, Tortworth - 27th July 2021
15 anglers fished the final evening match of the series on Tuesday evening. The weather conditions were good and all anglers caught fish.
Winner on the night was Alan Jenner with 10lb 9oz with two large bream. Dick Vizard was second with a single bream of 5lb 12oz. Dave Rugman and Bob Spence with 2lb 15oz each.

Charity Match, Tortworth - 25th July 2021
The charity match was fished by 10 anglers in much kinder weather conditions than the heat we have experienced recently. The lake fished well and everyone caught with the lowest weight 1lb 7oz. The majority of fish caught were roach perch and bream, there were a number of tench were caught and these were up to 3lb.
The winner was Russ Baker with a mixed bag of 6lb 2oz, but this could have been different if Roger Stokes who was next to Russ had not lost a large bream in the last 15 minutes, he was second with 5lb 9oz. Derek Anstey was third with 4lb 14oz.
The match raised £65 for our nominated charity.
Evening Match, Tortworth - 20th July 2021
It was a very hot evening on Tuesday with calm conditions. Fishing was tricky for most with catches mainly of roach, perch and eels. Winner on the night was Andy Gabb with 4lb 3oz, second was Dave Rugman and third was Russ Baker with 2lb 15oz.
Club Match v Alcove, Tortworth - 18th July 2021
The annual home match with Alcove took place earlier today on a very hot sunny day that made fishing tricky. There were 10 representing Alcove and 9 for Silver Bream. All anglers caught but some weights were small.
The match was close and Alcove were winners on the day with 15lb 3.25oz against 13lb 6.25oz for Silver Bream, well done to the visitors.
Individual winner was Dick Vizard with 5lb 4oz, one large Bram and a few small fish, second was Steve Dawson with an all roach catch of 4lb 4oz. Third was Julie Taylor with 3lb 8oz with two tench and fourth was Roger Stokes with 2lb 4oz. Well done to all who took part.
Evening Match, Tortworth - 13th July 2021
13 anglers fished, the weather was calm and warm and we all hoped for good sport, but a lot of work was needed to catch any fish. Winner on the night was Andy Gabb with 4lb 8oz that included a tench of 4lb 4oz. Dave Rugman was second with 3lb 9 oz of small roach, Tony Cook was 2lb 10oz of roach.
Evening Match, Tortworth - 6th July 2021
13 anglers fished on Tuesday night, the wind was a bit blustery but the rain kept away. There were no larger fish caught other than a 12oz Tench banked by Dave Rugman. Smaller fish (roach, perch and eels) were available to most and some reasonable weights were recorded and it was very close between the top four anglers.
First on the night was Peter Turner with 4lb 7oz, Russ Baker was second with 4lb 5oz and Andy Gabb was third with 3lb 15oz.
Evening Match, Popes Gully - 29th June 2021
The weather was kind on Tuesday but only 8 fished, due to England in the Euro’s!
Winner on the night was Roger Stokes with 21lb 8oz, Mark Nutley was second with 19lb 15 oz and Bob Spence with 18lb 4oz. All very close for the top weights which is good for competitive angling.
Evening Match, Popes Gully - 22nd June 2021
10 fished this evenings match in reasonable overcast weather. Peter Turner was winner on the night with 30lb 12oz, Roger Stokes was second with 24lbs 2oz and Tony Cook was third with 15lb 10oz.
Evening Match, Popes Gully - 15th June 2021
The evening match was fished in good warm conditions and fish responded. The weights were excellent with everyone catching. Winner on the night was Andy Gabb with 47lb 10oz, the average size of the fish was good and we think this could be a lake record, certainly for 2.5 hours.
Tony Cook was second with 29lb 10oz and Alan Jenner third with 17lb 1oz.
Junior Match, Popes Gully - 12th June 2021
The first junior match of the season took place on Saturday with two participants. The lake fished well with good weights being recorded. Jack Chauhan won the day with an excellent catch of 31lb 5oz on sweetcorn and maggots, well done. Adrian Deacon was second with 20lb 0oz but lost a number of good fish.
The next match is on 26th June, any junior member can fish, just turn up, there will be senior members present to advise and help.
Evening Series, Popes Gully - 8th June 2021
10 fished the evening series tonight, the weather was warm with a gentle breeze. The venue fished very well with all anglers catching decent weights.
Winner on the night was Peter Turner with 28lb 0oz, Tony Cook was second with 22lb 8oz and Mark Nutley was third with 17lb 9oz. Dave Rugman landed a 5lb 8oz carp a very good fish for the venue.
Club Match, Tortworth - 6th June 2021
The weather for todays match was good, warm, overcast and a gentle breeze, however the fish had other ideas. Only 6 members braved these conditions with Pete Barnett coming out on top with 1lb 14oz, Roger Stokes was second with 1lb 10oz and Dave Starkey third with 1lb 5oz. All catches were a mixture of perch and roach.

9 members fished today in good early summer conditions. The winner on the night was Peter Turner with 23lb 6oz from peg 3. Roger Stokes was second with 16lb 9oz from peg 8 and Russ Baker third with 10lb 15oz from peg 2.
Evening Series, Popes Gully - 25th May 2021
10 anglers fished the first match of this season at Popes Gully, everyone had a reasonable net of fish. The winner on the night was Andy Gabb with 13lb 12oz.
Evening Series, Tortworth - 18th May 2021
13 anglers fished the conditions were better than last week, but the fishing proved to be tricky with only one significant weight.
The winner on the night was Peter Turner with a weight of 6lb 2oz which contained three fish a bream of 4lb 14oz and two roach.
Evening Series, Tortworth - 11th May 2021
13 anglers fished the first of this years evening series in tricky conditions with a blustery wind and heavy rain showers. The weights were good for the anglers who attracted larger fish, but again the small fish were shy.
Winner on the night was Alan Jenner with 2 bream and a micro perch for 12lb, the largest bream was 6lb 9 1/2oz an excellent fish, well done. Bob Bishop was second with 9lb 15oz mainly made of 3 tench, a weight that would win on many occasions. Steve Pearce was third with 4lb 12oz that included a tench.

Club Match, Tortworth - 9th May 2021
The first match of the 2021-22 season was held at Tortworth. There was a tricky wind all day that made the fishing challenging for most. There were no Roach or Bream caught, all fish weighed were Tench or Perch.
The winner on the day was Peter Turner who had 2 Tench for 7lb 5oz the largest was 4lb. Steve Pearce was second with 3lb 8oz, also 2 Tench. The result sheet is below.
