Winter Series 2022/23 Aggregate Result
This years winter series concluded with the match at Harescombe on Sunday 5th March. The results are detailed below. The winner of the series is Steve Pearce with a total of 61 points, a very creditable result as Steve only dropped 5 points from teh potential maximum. Dave Starkey was second with 43 points and Pete Barnet third with 40 points.

The last match of the season took place at Top Lake, Harescombe on a cold cloudy day. The winner on the day was Steve Pearce with 22lb 7oz on peg 9. Dave Starkey was second with 19lb 14oz from peg 6 and Pete Barnett was third with 12lb 12oz from Peg 3.
The silverfish were a bit shy today with carp making the major part of most larger catches, but a few fine tench were caught, Jack Lewis had a tench of about 8lb. Well done to everyone for all their efforts this season.
Winter Series, Popes Gully - 19th February 2023
The latest match in the winter series took place earlier today in reasonable weather conditions. Winner on the day was Dave Rugman with 26lb 0oz from Peg 2 including a carp of 6lb 4oz, a good performance on his first match back, Steve Pearce was second with 18lb 4oz from Peg 10 and Dave Starkey was third with 15lb 10oz from Peg 11.
Winter Series, Popes Gully - 5th February 2023
The latest match in the winter series was fished earlier today in good clear conditions with a frost early on. Honours were taken by the Pearce brothers, Martin was first with a weight of 30lb 1oz from peg 11 and Steve was second with 21lb 8oz from peg 10. Rod Gabb was third with 11lb 9oz.
Winter Series, Harescombe Silvers Lake - 8th January 2023
The latest club match was held at the new Harescombe Silvers Lake on 8th January 2023. There was a lot of rain the day before and as a result this is likely to have affected the fishing.
Winner on the day was Alan Jenner with a weight of 15lb 0oz. Steve Pearce was second with 12lb 8oz and Russ Baker third with 11lb 9oz.
Winter Series, Tortworth 20th December 2022
The first match of the winter series took place on Sunday 20th December 2020 at the Gall Pond. The water levels have recovered significantly and are now at normal levels.
Winner on the day was Steve Pearce with a tench a few small roach at 3lb 8oz. Dick Vizard was second with 2lb 7oz and Dave Starkey was third with 1lb 12oz.
Christmas Match, Harescombe Match Lake 4th December 2022
The cold weather arrived before the match and this certainly affected the weights. The lake has recently been restocked with small carp and these made the majority of catches, but the older larger residents were needed for better weights,
Dave Starkey won the match on Peg 2 with a weight of 15lb 8oz. Pete Barnett was second with 10lb 0oz on the next swim, Peg 3. Dick Vizard was third with 8lb 0oz.

Winter Series, Harescombe Top Lake 23rd October 2022
The first match of the 2022 Winter Series was held at the Top Lake at Harescombe on Sunday. There was heavy rain overnight and in the early morning which affected the fishing with weights not quite as high as expected. However, all participants caught well, but carp were needed to out together a weight to challenge.
Winner on the day was Peter Barnett on peg 12 with a mix of smaller carp and roach. Peter Turner on peg 2 was second with 4 carp and roach, Steve Pearce was third on peg 11 with a mix of carp and roach.
Match v Alcove, Whitehouse Farm 2nd October 2022
The away match vs Alcove was fished indecent warm windless conditions. The draw was made with alternate pegs with Alcove fielding 15 anglers to Silver Bream 12. I have attached Tony Welsby’s weigh sheets as these give full information, you can see his write up on the Alcove blog.
The match was very close on the day. Tony used an average weight per head as the numbers were uneven. This gave a result of an average of 10.67 lb to Alcove and 10.5lb to Silver Bream, he was happy to call this a draw, fair enough!
Individual honours went to Silver Bream with Peter Turner winning with a total pf 34lb 8oz and Tony Skal second with 31lb 8.5oz. Rod Gabb won the Silvers prize on Georges and Andy Gabb and Pete Barnet were section winners. Well done to all participants on an excellent day.
Club Match, Gloucester 18th September 2022
The canal was a bit coloured for the match and the general consensus was that this affected the fishing. Winner on the day was Dave Rugman with an excellent catch of 16lb 4oz. mainly bream caught on the whip. Russ Baker was second with 4lb 15oz and Tony Cook was third with 4lb 9oz.
Club Match, Popes Gully 4th September 2022
The latest match in the Summer Series was fished on Sunday. The winner on the day was Tony Cook with an excellent weight of 59lb 4oz from shallow peg 8. Dave Starkey was second with 50lb 14oz from peg 11 and Dave Long was third with 46lb 4oz from peg 9.
Junior Match, Popes Gully 3rd September 2022
The latest junior match was held on Saturday afternoon with four eager contestants. The match was won by Arlo Deacon on peg 2with an excellent weight of 39lb, Jack Chauhan was second with 23lb 2oz. All contestants did really well in the 2.5 hour competition, well done.
Club Match, Popes Gully 14 August 2022
The latest Summer Series match was fished at Popes Gully last week. Winner on the day was Dave Starkey with 62lb 10oz, Dave Long with 57lb 12oz and third was Pete Barnett with 37lb 11oz.
Club Match, Popes Gully 31 July 2022
The latest Summer Series matched was fished at Popes Gully today in warm overcast conditions. Fishing was a little tricky at times with all anglers having quiet spells. The winner was Dave Long on Peg 4 with 42lb 4oz. Dave Rugman peg 8 and Bob Spence peg 2 shared second place with 35lb each.
Evening Series Aggregate Score
The final results for the 2022 Evening Series are detailed in the table below. This years winner is Andy Gabb with a total score of 83 points, only 5 less than a maximum score, well done on a remarkable achievement.
Second was Dave Starkey with 72 points and third was Peter Turner with 71 points.
Evening Series, Tortworth - 26th July 2022
The final match of this years Evening Series was fished last night at Tortworth in calm warm conditions.
Steve Pearce was winner on the night with an all roach catch of 2lb 8oz 8dr from Peg9. This could have been much better as Steve lost a tench and a very large roach. Second was Peter Turner on peg 14 with 2lb 7oz made up of 5 eels and some small roach and perch. Bob Bishop was third on peg 17 with 1lb 7 oz 8dr.
The result of the Evening Series aggregate will be posted shortly.
Working Party – there is a working party on Thursday 28th July at 6.00pm to 9.00pm, please come along if you can there is plenty to do.
Evening Series, Tortworth - 19th July 2022
The latest round of the evening series was fished last night in hot conditions, fortunately this did not affect weights too much.
Andy Gabb won for peg 6 with 2 tench and a few bits. Russ Baker was second from peg 20 with one good bream and smaller fish with Rod Gabb third from peg 17 with 2lb 8oz which included one good roach.
The last match in the evening series is next week.
Match V Alcove, Tortworth - 17th July 2022
The annual home match against Alcove was fished today in hot sunny conditions, despite that some reasonable weights were recorded. The team result was a narrow win for Silver Bream by 9oz, even though we had one short on our team. The final result was 20lb 13oz to 20lb 4oz. This is the first time I can recall the Silver Bream has won this event.
Individual winner on the day was Dave Starkey on peg 9 with 6lb 5oz, this included a large bream of at least 5lb. Second was Graham Beevor on peg 26 with tench and bream. Steve Pearce and Kevin Swanson tied for third with 5lb 4oz, Steve had a tench and a bream and Kevin had 1 bream and a tiny perch.

Evening Series, Tortworth - 12th July 2022
The latest match in the evening series was fished in pleasant warm overcast conditions and all participants caught fish.
Winner in the night was Peter Turner with 3lb 10oz of roach and a few eels. Dave Starkey was second with 1lb 8oz and Bob Bishop was third with 1lb 5oz.
Evening Series, Popes Gully -5th July 2022
The latest match in the evening series was fished on Tuesday with reasonable weather. Larger fish were needed to get in the frame.
Winner on the night was Dave Starkey with 6lb made up of one bream and a few small roach. Andy Gabb was third with 4lb 8oz, again one bream and a few smaller fish. Russ Baker was third with 4lb 4oz.
Charity Match, Tortworth - 3rd July 2022
The charity match was fished on Sunday evening in good weather conditions, unfortunately on 5 members attended so teh far bank was used for all participants.
Winner on the night was Peter Turner on peg 25 with a mixed bag of roach, hybrids perch and eels. Peter Barnett and Dave Starkey tied for second place with a weight of 1lb 12oz.
Evening Series, Popes Gully - 28th June 2022
The latest round of the evening series was on Tuesday evening and was fished in cloudy blustery weather, but this did noot affect the fishing. There were two excellent weights, i think the first two weights were the highest recorded for a 2.5 hour match (let me know if I am wrong).
Winner on the night was Dave Starkey on peg 3 with 42lb using a band em, closely followed by Andy Gabb on peg 12 with 41lb 2oz caught on meat mainly in the margin. Alan Jenner was third with 15lb.

The latest evening series was fished yesterday evening in good weather conditions, warm and sunny. Winner on the night was Andy Gabb on peg 6 with 24lb 12oz caught mainly in the margins. Dave Starkey was second from peg 2 with 15lb 12oz and Tony Cook was third with 13lb 4oz.

The latest match n the Evening Series took place on Tuesday evening in good warm weather conditions. Tony Cook was winner on the night with 19lb 0oz. Dick Vizard was second with 12lb 0oz, closely followed by Nigel Hopkins with 11lb 12 oz.
Evening Series, Popes Gully - 7th June 2022
The latest Evening Series Match was held on Tuesday 7th June in decent weather conditions, although fishing was a bit patchy.
Andy Gabb was winner on the night with a catch of 21lb 7oz. Dave Starkey was second with 18lb 0oz and Dick Vizard third with 14lb 8oz.
Evening Series, Popes Gully - 31st May 2022
The fourth round of the evening series was fished on the evening of the 31st May weather was good, no rain and little wind. Winner on the night was Peter Turner from Peg 3 with 31lb 13oz. Second was Andy Gabb with 16lb 1oz that included a 6lb 11oz carp, the best in the series so far. Mark Nutley was third with 9lb 10oz.
It has been decided that the match on Sunday 5th June will be cancelled because nearly all of our match fisherman have other commitments due to the Jubilee Weekend.
Evening Series, Popes Gully - 24th May 2022
The latest Evening Series match was fished at Popes Gully on 24th May. The weather was ok but the fishing was not a prolific as usual.
Winner on the night was Peter Turner with 26lb 0oz from peg 3. Mark Nutley was second with 9lb 0oz and Tony Cook third with 8lb 10oz.
Evening Series, Tortworth - 17th May 2022
The second evening series match was fished on 17 May in very mixed weather, everyone got soaked setting up and in the first hour!
The match was won by Andy Gabb on peg 27 with an excellent catch of 4 tench for 9lb 11oz, he could of had more as he lost a couple. Dave Starkey was second with 2 tench caught late for 5lb 1 oz and Russ baker was third with 2lb 6oz of silvers including 2 nice roach.
The aggregate weight was 22lb 14oz, a marked improvement on last weeks total of 9lb 12oz for the same number of anglers.
Evening Series, Tortworth - 10th May 2022
The first match in the evening series was fished yesterday evening at Tortworth. The wind made things a bit tricky and much colder than expected.
First on the night was Alan Jenner, his second win in 3 days, with a single bream caught in the last 5 minutes of the match. Peter Turner was second with a tench of 2lb 8oz along with a small roach, the tench was also caught in the last 5 minutes. In third place was Andy Gabb.
The next evening match will be at Tortworth before we move to 6 matches at Popes Gully. As the numbers at Popes Gully we operate a rota and expect participants to fish 4 out of the 6 matches. Club Match, Tortworth - 8th May 2022
The first match of the new club year was held at Tortwoth on Sunday. The weather was fairly kind, warm with a gentle breeze.
The water was clear and very few roach made an appearance which limited weights. Alan Jenner was winner on the day with two tench for 7lb 14 oz, Dick Vizard was second with a single tench of 3lb 4oz and Peter Turner was third with an eel of 1lb.
The first match of the evening series is on Tuesday 10th May with a 5.45pm draw, everyone is welcome, just turn up.
